Oklahoma Stuns No. 12 Texas A&M 3-2 in Five-Set Thriller
Oklahoma delivered one of its biggest victories of the 2026 women's college volleyball season Wednesday night, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat defending national champion No. 12 Texas A&M 3-2 at McCasland Field House in Norman.
The Sooners won 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 15-11, overcoming two separate set deficits before taking control late in the deciding frame.
The victory improved Oklahoma to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in SEC play, while Texas A&M dropped to 10-6 and 3-1 in conference competition.
Oklahoma also snapped the Aggies' six-match winning streak and handed Texas A&M its first SEC loss of the season.
The result marked the Sooners' first home victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 20 Tennessee on September 29, 2024.
Texas A&M Controls Opening Set
Texas A&M entered Wednesday's matchup looking to extend its winning streak to seven matches, and the Aggies established early momentum.
The opening set featured several ties as both teams worked to establish offensive rhythm.
With the score tied at 8-8, Texas A&M began creating separation.
Margot Manning delivered a service ace that helped spark a 5-2 run, forcing Oklahoma to call a timeout with the Aggies ahead 13-10.
The visitors continued applying pressure through a balanced offensive attack.
Megan Fitch and Taryn Morris contributed three kills apiece during the opening frame, helping Texas A&M build an 18-12 advantage.
The Aggies eventually extended their lead to 23-14.
Although Oklahoma scored three of the next four points, Texas A&M closed out the set 25-17 to take a 1-0 match advantage.
Oklahoma Responds in Second Set
The Sooners answered with a more aggressive approach in the second frame.
After falling behind 4-2, Oklahoma rallied to take an 8-5 advantage.
Texas A&M remained competitive, and the teams continued exchanging points until the score reached 16-16.
That was when Oklahoma made its move.
The Sooners produced a 6-2 run, creating the separation they needed to take control.
Oklahoma's offensive execution improved during the closing stretch, with timely attacks putting the Aggies under pressure.
Consecutive kills from Alaleh Tolliver brought Oklahoma to set point before Carley Butler delivered the finishing kill, securing a 25-20 victory.

Kyndal Stowers Gives Aggies a 2-1 Lead
Texas A&M regained momentum after the break.
The Aggies opened the third set with an 11-7 advantage, forcing Oklahoma to call a timeout.
The Sooners responded with consecutive service aces from Tekoa Barnes, reducing the deficit to 11-10.
Texas A&M answered by extending its lead to 19-15, but Oklahoma continued fighting.
The Sooners eventually pulled within one point at 19-18, threatening to complete another comeback.
However, senior outside hitter Kyndal Stowers delivered when Texas A&M needed her most.
Stowers recorded three kills and a service ace during the closing stretch, helping the Aggies secure a 25-20 victory.
Texas A&M moved ahead 2-1 in the match and needed only one more set to preserve its unbeaten SEC record.
Oklahoma refused to let that happen.
Sooners Force Fifth Set With Late Fourth-Set Stand
Oklahoma entered the fourth set facing elimination.
The Sooners immediately established momentum by scoring the first four points.
Their advantage continued growing, eventually reaching 16-10 as Texas A&M struggled to slow the Oklahoma attack.
Alyssa Flack provided important offensive production during the frame, recording six kills as the Sooners pushed toward a deciding set.
But the Aggies mounted another comeback.

The Sooners had survived their second elimination opportunity of the night.
Oklahoma Wins Dramatic Fifth Set
The deciding set opened with Oklahoma playing its most aggressive volleyball of the match.
The Sooners raced to a 4-0 advantage, immediately putting Texas A&M under pressure.
Oklahoma maintained its momentum and led 8-4 at the changeover.
But the Aggies responded.
Texas A&M produced a 5-1 run, erasing the deficit and tying the score at 9-9.
With the match hanging in the balance, Oklahoma needed another response.
The Sooners delivered three consecutive points to regain control.
Butler and setter Avaya Maga later combined for a block that brought Oklahoma to match point.
The Sooners initially appeared to finish the match at 15-10, but a successful Texas A&M challenge overturned the call.
The score returned to 14-11, giving the Aggies another opportunity.
Oklahoma did not allow the match to slip away.
Tolliver delivered the match-winning kill, securing a 15-11 fifth-set victory and completing the Sooners' 3-2 upset.
Balanced Oklahoma Attack Fuels Upset
Oklahoma's offensive balance played an important role in the victory.
Tekoa Barnes and Alyssa Flack finished with 15 kills apiece, providing consistent production against a nationally ranked opponent.
Butler also made a significant impact offensively and at the net, contributing double-digit kills and five block assists.
Her efficiency helped Oklahoma maintain pressure during the critical final two sets.
Setter Avaya Maga recorded 53 assists and six digs, directing the Sooners' offense throughout the five-set contest.
Defensively, Aniya Warren helped stabilize Oklahoma's backcourt with double-digit digs.
The Sooners relied on contributions throughout their lineup rather than depending on a single offensive option.
That balance became particularly important during the fourth and fifth sets, when Oklahoma needed multiple players to produce under pressure.
Kyndal Stowers Reaches Career Milestone
Despite the defeat, Texas A&M received an outstanding performance from Stowers.
The senior finished with a match-high 20 kills while hitting .381, recording her fourth match of the season with at least 20 kills.
She also contributed two service aces.
Stowers reached an important career milestone when her third kill of the match gave her 750 career kills.
Morris added 11 kills while hitting .417, and Fitch contributed 10 kills.
Setter Kirra Musgrove finished with 38 assists and four blocks.
Musgrove also reached 500 career assists during the match, achieving the milestone with her third assist of the evening.
Freshman defensive specialist Gabi Rodriguez recorded 11 digs, becoming the fastest freshman in Texas A&M program history to reach 200 career digs.
Rodriguez achieved the milestone in only 16 matches and has now recorded double-digit digs 14 times this season.
Texas A&M also finished with seven service aces, tying its second-highest total of the season.
Oklahoma Earns Statement SEC Victory
The five-set comeback gave Oklahoma an important victory against one of the conference's strongest opponents.
After losing the first and third sets, the Sooners showed resilience by protecting a narrow fourth-set advantage and responding when Texas A&M erased their early lead in the fifth.
The victory also ended Oklahoma's two-year wait for another home win against a ranked opponent.
For Texas A&M, the loss ended a six-match winning streak and marked its first setback in SEC competition this season.
Both programs now turn their attention to important conference matchups.
Oklahoma remains home to face No. 9 Texas on Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m.
