The Second Best College Basketball Player in North Carolina, Chris Clemons of Campbell University
Chris Clemons of Campbell University is probably not a name that many college basketball fans across the country know about but they should. Here are a few reasons why you should know who Chris Clemons is: Clemons is the leading scorer in the nation for the entire NCAA Division I averaging 30.1 points per game; owns the nation's active streak for scoring in double figures; 3rd in the nation for 3-point shots made per game (4.3); and is sixth all time in NCAA history for points scored with 3,136 points. Outside freshman phenom, Zion Williamson, there is not an impact player in the State of North Carolina that means more to his team than Chris Clemons.
The question you have to ask is why is this superstar not a household name? Some scouts will probably argue that it is his 5'9" stature precludes him from being a force in college basketball, but that point is weak because Clemons is a human highlight reel if you ever get to see him play. The other argument being made is that because he is at a mid-major Division I school the competition is not the same, but that too is a weak argument. It is a weak argument because if you look at another North Carolina native that also played at North Carolina mid-major school, Davidson College, that plays for some NBA team in the Bay Area called the Golden State Warriors, and he goes by the name Steph Curry, then you realize that there are some true diamonds at the mid-major level. Place Clemons on the roster at one of the big schools in North Carolina such as Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill and I guarantee you he would be doing the same thing on the court as he is doing at Campbell. Also lets think about this, if every team in the country knows Clemons is the go-to player for Campbell who do you think is getting double teamed each game? Based on this information alone it is obvious even with Clemons having to face double teams he is still a scoring machine. Now lets think about this a little deeper, can you imagine how unstoppable a team like Duke would be if it had a Chris Clemons in its starting line-up? At that point, it would be the collegiate version of the Golden State Warriors.
Chris Clemons may not be a household name today, but mark my word that he will be an impact player in the NBA to whoever gives him a shot by drafting him. You heard it here first from the Sports Business Guru.
