Queens University of Charlotte (30-4) punched their ticket to the NCAA DII Sweet 16 with a big victory against local rival Catawba College (24-8) 96-93. Queens was led by Daniel Carr who led all scorers with 33 points, 3 blocks, and 5 rebounds. Catawba could not find an answer to slow down Carr's offensive threat from the the three point arc and when they attempted to the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Shaun Willett, torched Catawba under the rim adding 19 points. The game came down to the last seconds of the game and it was a heated contest between both sides, giving the fans the true March Madness experience.
Queens held Catawba's game changer, Marcell Haskett, in check all game limiting him to just 4 points and going 0-7 in three point attempts. Malik Constantine of Catawba tried to fill Haskett's absence in scoring by knocking down 24 points but it was not enough to ever gain the lead in the game. The future looks very bright for Catawba because they will return the majority of their roster next season including the dynamic duo of Haskett and Devin Cooper. However, the Indian's will have to replace SAC Defensive Player of the Year Jameel Taylor who graduates in May and will have an opportunity to play in the NBA G-League or overseas.
